Founded in 2018, Parivar Bay Area is the first and only Kinnar–Hijrah–led organization in the United States, centering Global South transgender, gender-diverse, and intersex immigrants and asylees across California.
Since its inception, Parivar Bay Area has:
• Served over 104,000 individuals
• Engaged 28,300+ people through 600+ community events
• Graduated 212 leaders from its Immigrant Emerging Leadership Program (IELP)
• Delivered services across 20+ California counties.
Despite its statewide impact and deep roots in San Francisco, Parivar Bay Area’s FY25–26 government funding has been reduced to $0.
The Board of Directors is currently covering expenses, but this deficit is unsustainable and threatens the permanent loss of a proven, culturally competent service provider across the state.
Of the $1.1 Million, $675,000 is urgently needed to protect core immigrant programs, including:
1. TILARI – Immigrant Legal Relief ($372,000): Parivar’s most critical and endangered initiative, TILARI provides low-bono immigration legal services in partnership with Okan Law Immigration Group, along with emergency financial assistance. At approximately $1,550 per client, this investment prevents deportation, homelessness, detention, and costly emergency interventions.
2. Immigrant Emerging Leadership Program (IELP) ($144,000): A 10-week paid fellowship equipping newly arrived and existing immigrants, particularly transgender and LGBTQIA+ leaders with workforce skills, civic leadership training, and pathways to economic stability. Each fellow receives a $1,500 stipend upon completion.
3. Transgender Immigrant Services ($96,000): Direct support addressing immigration navigation, health access, safety planning, and crisis stabilization. 4. Social Integration & Resettlement ($63,000): Community-based integration support, referrals, immigrant safety trainings, and cultural programming to reduce isolation and promote belonging.
Across all programs, Parivar operates at an average cost of $225 per person served demonstrating exceptional cost efficiency for high-impact, life-saving services. The current federal climate, marked by ongoing immigration enforcement, barriers to affirming healthcare, and housing instability, has intensified fear and vulnerability among transgender immigrants, even in sanctuary jurisdictions like San Francisco. Without culturally competent legal and leadership infrastructure, many face deportation, unsafe housing, unemployment, and exclusion from public systems.
